About Us

The Israel Association of Valuators and Financial Actuaries (IAVFA) has been established in order to voluntarily regulate the professions of valuation and financial actuarial science in Israel, and promote the professional status of its practitioners as a senior, significant and Influential position, within the financial services, banking, insurance and investment sectors. Established in 2014, the Institute is a pioneer in valuation and financial actuarial science education and professional accreditation.

A Financial Actuarial Science is an area in finance which includes a variety of topics (like Business Administration) and deals with mapping, modeling, measuring and managing financial risks such as market risk (foreign exchange rate, interest rate, inflation, securities prices, and commodities prices), credit risk (default, downgrade and credit spread), operational risk (including liquidity and model) and investment risk (style drift). The field is growing in the world's financial industry and its practitioners get prestige and higher salaries.

A Valuation is an area in finance which combines knowledge corporate finance (valuation of corporates and intangible assets), quantitative finance (valuation of derivatives and complex financial instruments) and financial and economic modeling (building financial and economic models using Excel's advanced functions and/or by building unique functions in VBA).

Valuators analyze and measure the value of corporations, intangible assets and complex financial instruments for financial reporting and transaction purposes. Financial actuaries map, model, measure, and manage market, credit and operational risks for compliance with regulatory directives and minimizing financial loss purposes.

Both practitioners are using the same measurement methods, economic data and reasonableness tests for measuring assets and liabilities. However, while the valuator measures the value (i.e., the mean) the financial actuary measures the risk (i.e., the volatility). Therefore, a valuator and a financial actuary are complementary professions and can be seen as one field.

Both professions are specialized fields requiring a solid foundation of experience, continuing education, and the highest level of professional integrity. As a nationally recognized membership organization, we have established the following goals.

  • To increase awareness of valuation and financial actuarial science as specialized profession.

  • To ensure that the services of qualified, ethical valuators and financial actuaries are available.

  • To expand the knowledge regarding the theory and practice of valuation and financial actuarial science.

  • To develop and provide information, programs & services for members.

  • To impact national policy and law affecting the valuation and financial actuarial science community.
